The Race Against the Sun

The past weeks here in Tela it has been cold! Well probably not that
cold. But cold for any average Hondureño. There have been a few days
where I have had to turn off the fan in the middle of the night
because it is so cold. I actually put a sweater on the other day. I
hadnt put a sweater on for more than a year. The cold weather actually
did have an impact on me because this week I caught a little bit of a
cold. But I am doing much better now.

This week was Thanksgiving week. I completely forgot. It was until
like 4 o clock on Thursday that I realized that it was Thanksgiving.
That night we ate beans, eggs, fried platano, and tortillas haha.

As far as missionary work goes this week it was pretty successful. We
have been praying fervently to find those that are prepared to recieve
the Gospel. So this week we were contacting(tracting) in one of the
poorer neighborhoods in Tela and then the power went out. The sun was
just going down and we usually need to leave areas where the power has
gone out at night time. But something crazy happened. Since the power
had gone out and there was still a little light outside from the
sunset, everyone started coming out of their house to sit on their
porch. It was perfect for us to try to talk to as many of these people
as possible. So we had a race against the sun trying to contact as
many of these people that were sitting on their porch. We talked with
a good handful of people and set a bunch of return visits in those 15
to 20 minutes we had before the sun finally set.

On our way out of the neighborhood we walked by a house where there
was an entire family sitting and eating oranges. I thought for a
second about talking to them. Then I thought "It is already dark, we
have to go to another neighborhood." So we kept walking. As we were
just about to turn the corner I felt again that we should turn around
and talk to the family. So we turned around and walked all the way
back to that house and talked to the family in the dark. We asked if
we could share a small prayer with them. They had no objection and we
offered a small prayer to bless the family. We asked if we could come
back and share a messege with them this week. They accepted. We walked
away and I felt good. Nothing too spectacular happened. It wasnt like
the family told us off the bat that they want to get baptized but I
was happy that we had the impression to talk to them and we followed
it and it showed results.

Anyways! I am doing good. I hope you all have a great week!!!!!

Love ya!
Elder Gessell
