Halloween Coke

Hey everyone,

It has been a good week here in Tela again!

The weather has been a little unpredictable these past few days. We
are in the rainy season so it can start raining out of nowhere at any
moment. Last Saturday we were walking to our last appointment kind of
far away from our house. And all of the sudden we heard the rain
coming our way. It is crazy how you can just hear the water coming
towards before it comes down. Well when we heard that I knew that we
were gonna get soaked. We ran in the rain until we got to the
investigators house soaking wet. We tried to teach the lesson but the
thing with the rain is that everyone has tin roofing and when the rain
hits it you can barely hear. So we sat there yelling at the
investigator hoping he would here part of the lesson while the rain
came down. After the lesson we decided we would wait a little for the
rain to let up before walking home. But it rained for about 30 minutes
and it never let up. So we decided to just run for it. And it was a
good thing we left when we did because the river was just about to
spill over the bridge we need to cross to get home. Finally we got
home soaked from the rain.

This week in missionary work has been alright. Right now we have 2
baptismal dates for 2 young men from an less active family, Sergio and
Luis. They are both willing and preparing to be baptized but they(and
their family) need to get into the habit of going to church. They live
about a 30 minute walk from the church. Well 30 minutes of missionary
walking. So they live far and they dont have money to take taxis to
and from.

We are also working with the grandson of an active member. His name is
Carlos. He is receptive and likes to learn about the Gospel. The only
thing is that he is pretty active in the church that he goes to with
his mom. The thing here is that everyone here is already Christian. If
you dont already go to church then youre not cool. And it doesnt
matter to anyone which church you go to. It is really hard to get
across the whole "the only true and living church upon the face of the
whole earth" thing across. That is the problem with Carlos. We have
taught the Restoration, he is reading the Book of Mormon but he still
insists that he can be exalted in the church that he goes to. But we
are not going to give up on him. We are relying that he will recieve a
dose of personal revelation one of these days.

Apart from missionary work we have done a lot of fun things this week.
We cut some fire wood, learned to cut coconuts, ate crab soup, ate
this thing called jute which is like river snails and some other
things that I dont remember haha.

Halloween was nothing special. It is completely non existent here. We
tried going to the super market after all our visits on Wednesday to
buy a bunch of candy but it was already closed so we just drank a
liter of coke together like real HondureƱos.

Love you guys!

Elder Gessell
