Golden Investigators......And dog Gangs

Well hey there everyone! It has been another blazing hot week in
Honduras and it has also been a rainy one.

This week we picked up a few more investigators which was great. We
started teaching good ol' Don Paco again. Don Paco is the husband of a
recent convert named Doris. They are in their mid 60's and live with
their grandson Justin. Doris got married last year to get baptized but
Don Paco wasn't fully convinced. But Don Paco loves the missionaries
and goes to church every Sunday that Doris goes. But the other day we
heard from their new Sister Ministers that Don Paco was interested in
baptism once again. So we came to their house on Tuesday ready to
teach The Restoration and put a baptismal date.... It didn't really go
as planned.

Don Paco likes the Bible, a lot. So everything that we said we had to
back up with the Bible and we had to give a really good explanations.
First he had problems with the idea of the need for authority. Then he
couldn't see how the Great Apostasy changed the Doctrine of Christ.
Then we talked about the Restoration and the next thing we knew we had
been there for 2 hours. But anyways, sometimes there are investigators
like that. You can explain everything out as simply and clearly as you
can but in the end the investigator will just say for the third time
"But Jesus was only baptized one time!" We realized that with Don Paco
we cant explain everything to him but that we are going to have to
help him recieve a spiritual confirmation of these things. That is
really what matters.

The funny thing is that this week we had a visit with another
investagator couple. His name is Jose Luis and her name is Sairy. The
lesson we had with them was just about the opposite that we had with
Don Paco. We explained how Jesus established His church and how with
time that church went through unauthorized changes during the Great
Apostasy. As we taught they had some great questions and began to
understand so well. They asked, "Well, if Jesus established one church
how can we know which of all the churches are true." That question is
music to missionary ears. This week we are going back to teach the
rest of the Restoration.

But that is just how it is. The mission is like a box of chocolates
you never really know what youre gonna get.

I am doing good by the way. I am pretty well ajusted here in San Juan
after almost two months. I have made friends with my district and with
the members in the ward. Plus we have 3 dogs that live in front of our
house. One is named Tormenta(Storm) because she barks really loud, one
is Tigre because he has stripes, and another named Pirata(Pirate)
beacause one of his eyes is all messed up. So ya. With my dog gang and
my friends here in the ward life is good.

Thanks again for everything!

Elder Gessell
