Work in San Pedro

This week went by pretty quick. I am gotten mostly adjusted to being here in San Juan. I am enjoying it here. The members feed us and we have quite a bit of work to do. The ward is fairly big. It is one of the older wards here in San Pedro so it has a lot of returned missionaries and second generation members. So we get a lot of help from them.

This week we did 2 service projects. The first one was on Tuesday and we got to chop fire wood and paint a fridge. 2 things that I have never done before haha. Then we cleaned an older lady's house. We organized all here boxes and a bunch of old clothes. She told us that if we wanted something out of the pile of things that we could ask. It was kind of like thrift shopping haha. I don't find anything but some of the other Elders in my district brought home backbacks and white shirts.

Here in this ward there is a recent convert named Santiago. Santiago is 84 years old and was baptized last year. He is awesome. He is 84 years old and still works on his corn farm; chopping weeds with machete and harvesting corn like he's 20. He loves the gospel. He has already gone to the temple and loved it. He always gives us soda even though he is a little tight on money. He tells that he was a "picaro" or flirt when he was a young man. He tells us that he used sit on the side of a hill with his guitar while his brother was looking out for pretty girls coming up the hill. And as soon as his brother would give him the sign he would start playing his guitar and singing a love song. He says that he had a lot of success with this technique.

I always have enjoyed meeting new people in my areas. I think it is one of the best parts of missionary work. It constantly surprizes me how kind the people are to us. In every ward that I have been in we have had someone or multiple people that are willing to help us in any way. I am so grateful for that.

Anyways, I love it here. Honduras is pretty crazy. But pretty awesome at the same time. Thanks for all the love!

Elder Gessell
