God speaks to His Children

This week was fast. It is crazy how fast this transfer has gone by.
Next week are already transfer calls and transfers. Pretty crazy.

What I remember the most this week was our finding efforts. These past
few weeks we have been trying to find lots of new investigators with
very little luck. But the other day we were walking in the street and
a lady came out of her house yelling at us. So we hesitantly walked
back to her house and she told us that she is a member that recently
came back to Honduras after living in Oklahoma for a long time. She
introduced us to her family that are not members and said. "We are
going to go to church next Sunday and I want you to teach my family."
In the end we had 5 new investigators that are planning on going to
church this next week. Yes!

Also this week we started visiting a 11 year old boy. He is a member's
brother that we had no idea that he wasn't baptized. His name is
Jafet. He has been going to church for like 5 Sundays in a row and
comes and plays soccer on Saturday almost every week.

Last Pday we played a little bit of basketball. Well actually just
about every Pday I bring a basketball to the church to shoot around
but normally the Latino Elders don't want to play so we play soccer.
But last week another gringo (Elder Hatch), a Dominican (Elder Frica),
a Tongan (Elder Hofaka), and I played a game of two on two. I really
enjoyed it. I miss basketball a lot.

This a couple weeks ago we were teaching The Restoration to one of our
investigators named Isis. When we explained to her the first vision
she had a rough time understanding that God had appeared to Joseph
Smith. There is a really bad misconception about the Bible that no one
has ever seen God. We showed her the story about Stephen when he saw
Jesus at the right hand of God. But she still was a little hesitant.
So this week I was studying all the times that God has appeared to
men. At first I was just looking for times when God the Father
appeared to man but then I decided to make notes of every time Jehovah
or even Jesus Christ as a resurrected being appeared to man. And was I
surprised. I realized first that people that believe that God doesn't
appear to man have not read the Bible. Because in reality God has
appeared to hundreds of people. I learned that God is willing to speak
to us. That He isn't some distant being that is just out of our reach.
But that He is our Father and wants us to come to Him.

But that was my week. Also sending my love out to Elder Bertagnini
(soon to be Spencer again) for his homecoming this week. Congrats!

Love you all!

Elder Gessell
