Always Invited, Everywhere
m sorry. I can never remember what happens during the week. I just
remember eating a lot of beans and rice, and walking and sweating.
We
are officially in summer here in Honduras. It is so hot. It doesn't
matter what you do. You just sweat. The only thing that can save you
from sweating is sitting directly in front of a fan. We sweat when we
walk, we sweat when we eat (especially when we eat soup), we sweat when
we study, and we sweat when we sleep. There is nothing you can do to get
away from it. Except for hugging the fan or showering all the time. I
shower about 3 times a day nowadays. Not really shower but I get my body
wet. I will shower in the morning and change clothes and all that but
after lunch and before going to bed I will just jump in the shower just
to stop sweating and then I put the same clothes on. It sounds gross but
it is better than sleeping covered in salt from my sweat.
This
week on Tuesday we had a cool FHE with a recent convert named Eva. Eva
got baptized about 2 weeks before I got to San Juan and is super cool.
She has two daughters that about Madi's and Cami's age. Anyways we came
over and we had a good time. The daughters had made us a poster that
said something like "Welcome Missioinaries, Elder Gessell and Elder
Benitez to the Family Home Evening, We hope you have fun!" We taught a
lesson about self worth and played charades and drank soda. It was fun.
Sometimes I feel like missionary work is like always being invited to
everyones house so they can give you food and play games just for
reading the scriptures. Haha
Also on Tuesday it
was Elder Peterson's birthday. Elder Peterson is part of the other
companionship in the ward and he is from California. I get along well
with him. We have actually been close by for like 6 months now because
he was in my district in Satelite also. So we went to a members house
and ate cake and sang to him.
I went to my
first ward counsel for a long time this week. I was actually kind of
nervous because my last ward counsel was in Lempira and some of the
members there were kind of scary and liked to complain a little about
us. I know they had good intentions and sometimes they were probably
right. Also, it did help me push myself a little harder and become a
better missionary. But it didn't make me a little uncomfortable in the
ward counsels. Anyways when we got to the ward counsel for San Juan I
actually really enjoyed it. The members were happy and willing to help. I
didnt feel under pressure but I felt like I was making good connections
with the ward members. It felt good to be in a ward counsel again.
Anyways, that was my week. Today we went to Burger King. Now we are going to play some soccer and try not to get dehydrated.
Hope you have a great week!!!
Elder Gessell
