Killer Baleada
Well this week was pretty different from the past few weeks.
I am going to jump into the middle of the week with Thursday. On Thursday
we had a normal day planned with contacting and normal visits and stuff
until the zone leaders called and said told us that a members house had
burned down in our stake. So basically the zone leaders told the
"Avengers to Assemble" because within 20 minutes
there were 10 missionaries all changed and helping clean up the burned
down house. Apparently the fire had started because the power generator
that the family used for power outages, had caught fire at night.
Thankfully no one was hurt. But the fire did leave a big mess to be
cleaned up. We spent basically the entire day with shovels scooping up
ash and piling it into trucks. About halfway through the day the owners
of the house came in while we were cleaning up and took a look at the
walls that had been damaged and told us it was best to just take the
walls down too. So the clean up crew turned into the demolition crew. I
honestly really enjoy those kinds of service. Not just because we got to
destroy things but because I like to get all tired and sweaty. I just
like to work on those things until I am just exhausted. So it was a
pretty good time.
What wasn´t
such a good time was the day after the service project. But it didn't
have anything to do with me being sore. It had to do with a killer
baleada. So on Friday
morning the owner of our apartment who lives below us was like "hey do
you guys want baleadas!" And of course we said yes. We were so happy
because we normally didn't eat that much for breakfast except for maybe
some sweet bread and orange juice. But little did I know was that that
baleada was a killer baleada. To make a long story short after about an 2
hours of feeling sick in the street and then throwing up; I spent the
rest of the day in our apartment throwing up and taking pepto bismol.
Some how Elder Bohorquez was not affected so he read Jesus the Christ
while I tried to quietly throw up in the bathroom. It wasn´t too
miserable because it isn´t the first time but it still wasn´t fun haha.
But now on Monday I am feeling a lot better.
Our
main investigator for these past few days has been Ellio. I think I
explained how he is married to an inactive member of the church and has received the missionaries for years now. Well like 2 weeks ago something
interesting happened. He lost his job! Well it was rough for him but it
was pretty great for us! He lost his job because he lent money that
wasn´t his to a friend that in the end didn´t pay him back. I know how
this sounds. But talking in eternal perspectives this could be the best
thing that happens in his life. Because ever since he lost his job not
only has he had more time to visit with us but he has changed almost
entirely. He has read 20 chapters of the Book of Mormon. He has quit
drinking. And he has put the goal to be baptized on April 7th.
It has been crazy. I feel like we have just watched God answer our
prayers and say "Ok, I´ll take care of this." So it has been pretty
great.
Anyways that was this week. I am sure
more happened. But those are the highlights I guess. Thanks again
everyone for the love and support!
Love,
Elder Gessell
