Baptisms in Planes
Well this week was pretty awesome!
It started out
with a relaxing Pday at the stake center playing soccer and UNO. Until
someone kicked the soccer ball onto the roof of the church. But this
morning we went and bought a new one with the district.
On Tuesday
I was on divisions or splits with Elder Compean from Mexico. Elder
Compean is a pretty cool guy. The day that I had with him was pretty
darn productive. We found some promising investigators and had an
awesome visit with the Villanueva family. I think I included last week
how Maitte was going to tell us on Tuesday
whether or not she was going to get baptized this week. Well I was
pretty anxious the whole day waiting for that visit. We got to their
house and I had forgot that Maitte was in seminary. So we waited with
the rest of the family and Dunia gave us dinner. She got home and we
talked for a moment and then she said yes. I took out my agenda and
immediately started making the program and all that jazz. While we were
doing all this Anai, Maitte´s younger sister told us that she wanted to
get baptized with her sister. I had died and gone to heaven.
So
we spent just about the entire week reviewing the lessons, making plans
for the baptism, and doing interviews for Maitte and Anai.
On Wednesday
I went to the zone leaders area for divisions again. And we did the
baptismal interviews for their investigators also. And since we share
the ward with them we had 4 baptism on Friday. It was what the missionaries call here a "Noche Blanco" or White Night because everyone is dressed in white.
The baptism on Friday
was great. Some Villanueva family´s relatives came and saw and we had
good talks prepared and a bunch of support from the members. It was
pretty great.
This week I read in personal
study about the 3 Nephites. I did some comprehensive thinking and these
are some of the thoughts I had. I wondered why Jesus gave the gift of
immortality to the 3 Nephites. I don´t think that Jesus would have given
that gift to just anyone. Jesus must have been sure that these 3 men
wouldn´t waste the gift that he gave them. He must have been sure that
they would use it correctly. They must have had a pure desire to help
bring others unto Christ. In other words they must of had charity. So I
thought, "Wow, if they needed charity(even if it was just a little bit)
to live immortally in a terrestrial world. Imagine what we need to leave
immortally in a celestial world!" It reminded me that charity is the
essence of a celestial life. Helping others come unto Christ is
preparing us to live a celestial life. I hope that someday I can gain
part of that charity here in this life.
Thanks again everyone. I can´t thank you enough. But I hope saying it every week makes up a little of the difference.
Love you all,
Elder Gessell
