Normal week in Honduras

This week has been my normal week here in San Pedro Sula. No holidays and no protests.

Well actually something crazy happened this week! So my companion Elder Bohorquez has this nose problem or something that clogs up his nose so that can't breath out of his nose for weeks at a time. So last week he was snoring alot. All night every night. So one morning I was like "hey you need to go to the hospital." So we called the nurse and after like 3 days of bugging her she finally made an appointment. So on Tuesday we got to make the short trip to the hospital in downtown San Pedro. So we got there and we waited a bit and then we got to talk with the doctor. So the doctor started looking in Elder Bohorquez's nose and all that. Normal stuff. But then the doctor said "wait a second, I'll be right back." So we waited like five minutes while Elder Bohorquez sat in the patient's chair and then he came back. But this time he had a huge pair of scissors. Next thing we knew he sticking that bad boy up my companions nose and cutting and pulling things out. It was pretty traumatizing. But in the end Elder Bohorquez felt a lot better and could breathe. Now we BOTH sleep a lot better.

This week we have been working hard to find some more investigators. Lots of knocking on (yelling at) doors. Something that I have noticed about contacting like that is that you just have to get started. I almost never want to contact but once we get started it gets so much easier. It is always just that first door. After the first door the discouragement goes away and the motivation comes in.

Last night when we got home I started cleaning our house. Our house was filthy. The Elder's before us must have never cleaned the house the entire time they were there. I scrubbed out black gunk out of our sink, toilet, and shower. It was way gross but afterwards it feels so much better to have a cleaner house.

This week I was reading in the Book of Mormon about when Jesus vistited the Nephites. The first few things that He taught them made me think a bit. The first thing that Jesus did once He got to the Americas was let the Nephites feel his wounds. He helped them and gave them a testimony that He really is the Christ that the prophets had testified of. Then he explained the importance of baptism and showed them the correct way to do it. I asked "why were these the first things that Jesus did?" I guess these were the most important things for Him to do. It is so important that we gain the testimony that Jesus is the Christ. That is what matters most. Then Jesus explained baptism. I guess that is also a huge part. Once we have gained that testimony of Christ that is the next step we take to follow Him. This helped me remember the basics. Of course there are other things that are really important like the Restoration and Joseph Smith. But what matters the most is our testimony in Christ and making covenants with Him.

Love all! Hope you have a great week!

Elder Gessell
