2018
Well we made it. We made it to 2018!
It has been a pretty eventful week. First on Monday I got to call home. We went to a members house and he let us borrow his laptop. It was pretty awesome. It was kinda weird. It was like I was transported back to my house for an hour. When I walked outside again I was again surprized that I am in Honduras. Talking to my family reminded me how awesome they are. My family is just so awesome.
Honestly the only other thing that I can remember from this week was the Post-Christmas devocional that we had on Thursday. Because President couldnt travel to our zone due to the protests until this week we had our Chirstmas Devocional on Thursday. It actually felt like Christmas as we sang hymns and talked about the birth of Christ.
And now it is January 1st, 2018. Last night it was mostly the same deal as Christmas. Tons of fireworks and lots of tamales. I did manage to drink a bit of Sparkling grape cider last night. I was explaining what we did on New Years in our house to a member family. While I was explaining cider the sister left for a couple minutes and came back with a bottle of Sparkling Cider. She said she didnt know what it was when she bought it a few weeks ago and said that we could drink it. It was a perfect little detail that made my day.
I was looking for scriptures to share with people during my personal study yesterday that could be tied with the New Year. I found this in Ephesians 4:21-24, "If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus: That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness."
I really like this because I have always liked to explain to people that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is meant for our progression and change. In this new year we reflect on the person we were. Then we put of the uneccesary things and we renew our mind. I like to think of that as a renewed mindset. We can focus on the things that really count. We can focus on righteousness and true holiness. This year I want to sort out the uneccesary things and really focus on the most important.
Happy New Year everyone! I love you all! Hope you have a great week! Talk to you again on Monday!
