Mototaxis in Morazan
Hello!
It has been quite the interesting week! With the new area, new companion, and general conference there is lots to share!
First of all, on Tuesday I spent the whole day just saying goodbye to all the members and investigators from Lempira. I didnt have much time so I was basically running into houses and taking pictures with people haha. After that I went home stuffed all my stuff in my suitcases and went to another area to sleep so I could catch the bus for Progresso at 4 in the morning. That night there was 8 Elders in that one tiny house. It was a very long night haha. On Wednesday morning we all got on the bus to Progresso which was about 3 hours. Just about all the missionaries that have transfers go to Progresso so I was able to say hi to a few Elders that I hadnt seen for a while. Then once I met up with Elder Lima it was time for us to head up to Morazan with our zone leaders. We got on the bus and we started heading into jungle. We just kept driving and driving it was making me worried. I thought we were going to arrive at a village of teepees and people were going to start shooting arrows at us. But after about an our of driving we did arrive at a small town but there were no teepees.
Morazan is a very nice little town full of lots of farms and all kind of agriculture. Everyone rides around on motorcyles and instead of taxis there are mototaxis. I rode on my first mototaxi on Wednesday. It was awesome. It is like riding around on a little gokart! The branch is really nice too. Right now the chapel is a house that was converted into a church building. The are about 40 active members that attend church on Sundays. There are a lot of inactive members and lots of part members families. Elder Lima and I are slowly getting to know the area everyday. Apparently there used to be 6 missionaries in this one branch so we have a lot of area to cover. I dont think we are going to run out of doors to knock haha.
Our house is pretty awesome. We have air conditioning but it doesnt work very well and supposedly it is kind of expensive so we havent used it much. We dont have running water most of the day but we do have a "pila" which fills up when the water comes. We are about an hour and a half from any other missionaries so we do mostly everything here in Morazan unless there is a zone activity.
Elder Lima and I are getting a long very well. He is from Guatemala and has been a member for 5 years. He has about 6 months in the mission and we are working very well together. He really likes Harry Potter and Clash Royal the iphone game.
Conference was pretty awesome! I got to watch just about all of it in English. My favorite talk was by Elder Todd D. Christopherson. He spoke about a few different topics. He first talked about how Jesus is the bread and water of our life. He explained how we should try our best to internalize the attributes of Christ into our own behavior. He also spoke about seeking to be Holy. I really liked how he explained various items that the pioneers put "Holiness to Lord" on. It helped me realize that we should take time to be Holy. Simply take time to literally consecrate our lives. I enjoyed how he said that we shouldnt be content with where we are but we shouldnt get discouraged either. I also really enjoyed the many talks about the Book of Mormon. I have really felt my testimony of the Book of Mormon grow since the beginning of my mission and conference was a confirmation of that growth.
Thanks again for all the love and prayers. These next few weeks I am going to be writing a little bit earlier on Mondays around 7 or 8 my time so it would be best to email before Monday comes around each week. Thanks again!
Love,
