Central America Independence

Hola!

This week was the week of Honduras Independence day. Well Independence day actually is just on the 15th but like most holidays here it is celebrated all week long. Most of the schools do like this parade thing throughout the week and there are also a lot of military marches. On Wednesday night the ward held a cool cultural night activity where they celebrated Honduras traditions. It was mostly dancing and singing that were really cool. One of our investigators Jimmy even sang one of his songs which was great! Something that I learned and found interesting was that a lot of Honduras traditional songs and dances included lots of high pitch screaming and whistling. I was impressed at how loudly some of the people could scream and whistle.

Right now there is a pink eye epidemic going around and getting everyone sick. The funny thing is that I totally predicted it happening. About a month ago one of our investigators kids had pink eye when he came to church. I told Elder Gardner that in about a month or so everyone is going to have pink eye. And I was right. So we have been caring around hand sanitizer a lot and not touching our eyes. Thankfully we havent gotten anything yet.

This week we have been visting our investigator Jimmy a lot. Something we found out about Jimmy is that he really likes the teachings of the apostle Paul. Especially in the books of Romans and Hebrews. He has a pretty large knowledge of Paul´s teachings. But the other day he was explaning to us how there were a lot of things that were unanswered in the bible and specifically with some of Paul´s teachings. He explained to us a few verses and how they may have some contradiction or they werent very clear. The whole time he was explaining this I was thinking in my mind "I am so glad we have the Book of Mormon!" After he had finished explaining his doubts and his questions I picked up the copy of his Book of Mormon and asked him if he knew what it was. I explained to him how the Book of Mormon doesnt just fill in some of the holes in the Gospel of Jesus Christ but that the Book of Mormon contains the FULLNESS of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I testified to him that whatever questions he had pertaining the Gospel of Jesus Christ that he would find answers in the Book of Mormon. Then we sat and picked out some important chapters in the Book of Mormon that he should read to get a good understanding.

After that experience I have thought about how before I was a little nervous to introduce people to the Book of Mormon. There are many people who have twisted views of the Book of Mormon and often criticize us for it. But I have learned to sit through the criticism and smile. And once they finish I try my best to testify of the truths that can be found in the Book of Mormon. Through that not only have many people come to know a little more of the Book of Mormon but my testimony of the Book of Mormon has grown immensely.

This week we hear about changes so by next week I will know whether I will be staying in Ceiba for one more change. Wow this change has gone by fast haha.

Love
Elder Gessell
