Cambios!
Hey everyone!
Pretty interesting week this week! I spent a lot of time in another area and transfers calls were last night!
This week I spent about 4 days in Lempira which is another area in our district La Ceiba. I was there because one of the Elders, Elder Padilla, in Lempira is having problems with his knee and Lempira is a very hilly area. So we talked to President and decided that it would be better for Elder Padilla to stay in our area where it is more flat until his knee is better.
I enjoyed being in Lempira. I think I have already described how it is there but I´ll do it again. It is a lot more humble than our area and I enjoy that. It makes contacting a lot more productive. We are let in into just about every other house. The area is really pretty and feel more like Honduras than my area. Sadly I didnt bring my camera while I was there. I know... Im sorry. Also, when I say Lempira is hilly I mean like mountains. Everywhere you go you are either climbing a hill or trying not to roll down one. I was exhausted by the end of each day haha. While I was there I was companions with Elder Reyes. Elder Reyes is from Guatemala and he is a swimmer! Crazy I know! So we had a lot of fun talking about that while I was there.
Well this week we have transfers. And I am a little sad to say that I am leaving Independecia and Elder Martinez. I really have made a connection with the people here and with our investigators. I am a little sad that I wont see Carlos get baptized but I know that it will happen soon. Im gonna miss a lot of things in Independencia. I dont think I could have had a better area to start my mission. Anyways, last night I got the call from our zone leaders and was assigned to a new area. My new area is...........Lempira!!!! hahah. I couldnt believe it either! I am moving about a 25 minute walk away from Independencia haha. I am going to be in the same district and will see Elder Martinez every week! Elder Reyes is my new companion. And Elder Padilla is staying in Independencia. Apparently the Zone leaders talked to president and decided that it would be best if I stayed in Lempira and Padilla in Independencia. Everyone is telling me how unusual changes like this are and I am pretty grateful! So probably for at least 3 months I will be in Lempira. I am excited to get to work there!
This week during personal study I was reading a lot about charity. In 2Nephi 26: 29-30 it talks about priestcrafts and charity. It stuck out to me that unless we have charity we are nothing. It talks about how if we are preaching to get gain for ourselves and not preaching for the building up of Zion we are committing priestcraft. It helped me realize that Im not here to gain cool stories to share or to learn spanish or even to learn more about the Gospel. Yes, those things will happen and that is a good thing. But if that is the only reason I am here then I am lacking something. I am lacking the love for the people and love for the Lord. The primary reason I am here is for charity. I am hoping that little by little I can gain more and more of this love for the people and for the Lord.
Thanks again everyone! Love you all! Have a great week!!
Elder Gessell
